Broadband changing from old tariffs

We have offered a number of tariffs over the years and some customers continue to be on services and tariffs that have not changed for some time. With the launch of new ADSL2+ services we are also moving customers over to a new BT link which will reduce costs. We are therefore changing all customers on existing ADSL Max tariffs over to a new tariff automatically. The new tariff is cheaper, and in some cases has more usage allowance.

Higher tariffs move over to the corresponding Pro tariff or a higher one if their usage justifies it and the price is still less. If they are Max Premium then the new tariff is selected with the premium option. Max-A on multiple lines or where there is enhanced care will also be changed to Pro 2GB as these are not available on the Basic tariff. 21CN does not support SDSL lines, so SDSL prices are not changing.

When will it happen?

We have upgraded all lines that are on Max usage based charging to the new tariffs.

Later in 2009 we will upgrade lines to 21CN ADSL2+ services. The upgrades are done using BT's bulk regrade process which means upgrades done out of normal hours and set up over a month in advance. This allows BT to work on an exchange at a time and upgrade lines for several ISPs in one go. However this can be a month or more after the exchange is ready for new ADSL2+ services and in some cases m,ay be delayed several months. If your exchange is ready and you would like to upgrade sooner contact sales who can arrange this for a fee of £13.20.

How will I know?

We will email you at least a week before a regrade to the new ADSL2+ service. When the regrade happens there is a few minutes of outage and then you will be on a new 21CN link which is still ADSL1 initially. We then regrade to ADSL2+ which is a matter of seconds and may happen the same day or the next day. Our staff monitor the lines being regraded on the day and pursue BT over any problems that are encountered. Normally the process is pretty seamless. Some customers on older routers will find they stay on ADSL1, but you can change settings on our control pages once your regrade is complete.

Older tariffs

Customers on older tariffs have been offered ADSL Max for some time. Such customers can upgrade to the Max tariffs before being regraded or to the new tariffs after being upgraded. If you do nothing your service will change to 21CN as closely matching your existing service as possible and on the same price. You cannot change to the new tariffs until you are moved to 21CN links by us or we change you over to the new tariff early for some reason.

What else changes?

The tariff change also means a change to the new usage based charging scheme which has fairer carry over of under and over usage as well as an eve/weekend usage level. The new tariffs are also a simpler "30 days notice" termination/migration rather than the previous "no-refund" system. The basic package also has new line settings to make it more stable.
