Fibre services

Using BT Openreach, we are able to provide a number of fibre services to our customers. Fibre links are very reliable and are not subject to the issues that can happen with broadband and telephone lines. They are not affected by weather or radio interference and only fail when something physically happens to them somehow.

WES/WEES

The main service we offer is a point to point link between two sites within around 50Km of each other. These services are then presented as a normal Ethernet port at each end, and are available at 10M, 100M or gigabit speeds.

Prices depend on the speed and distance, so do ask for a quote. They are typically at least £3,500 to install, and at least £3,500 a year to run a short 10M link. We can provide a more detailed quote given postcodes of each end. Lead times are up to around 3 months but can be less.

The install cost may be several thousand more if new duct work has to be done.

Internet services

As we have fibre links and servers located in some places, we can provide a fibre link where one end is connected to the internet. This is currently places near Bracknell, Maidenhead and Docklands. In these cases there is a small additional cost for "transit" to the internet and hosting the fibre termination. However, many towns have data centres and we can consider setting up a point of presence in a local data centre and providing a WES link.

Remember these are symmetric services. A 10M fibre is 10M each way at the same time. It is not "up to 10M", it is exactly and reliably 10M all the time.

Fibre to the home

We can provide a fibre to a house, but this will almost certainly have significant additional costs. As an example a fibre from our offices to our director's home cost around £15,000.

Where?

A WES circuit is a point to point service and available all over the country within certain distance limits from end to end. Some distances are only available at higher speeds (gigabit). However, there are many data centres throughout the country as well as backhaul services available to us which allow connection of a WES back to an internet connection. This means that we are able to offer fibre internet services to a lot of the country. This can be a very costly solution but take up in some areas may well make it more viable especially major towns with data centres. Please do let sales know if you are interested.

Yes, we offer fibre, but it is not broadband!
